Labour Party stickers and posters
I have a small collection of Labour Party posters and stickers from various local and general election campaigns. I find it interesting how the use of different fonts and colours over the years, give a really different feel to the party.
Here are a few examples…
1983
This is a window sticker from 1983. Simple design and I’m guessing it would have been quite cheap to print!
The white slab typeface on red is really striking too.
Labour also had a special campaign slogan in 1983 too:
‘Think positive, act positive, vote Labour’.
I must do some research as to why they went with this. Was it an election where Labour chose not to attack the Tories during the campaign?
Here are the lapel stickers from the same year…

1987
Next, the general election of 1987 and this time a poster. I guess that the yellow was introduced to make it stand out more?

As far as I can remember campaign materials during 1992 were very similar to those in 1987, but if anyone knows different please get in touch.
1997
1997 saw the introduction of the newLabour newBritain slogan/device, and you’d see it on lots of items, but the core Labour Party rose logo was still heavily used on posters and stickers. Here is a car sticker issued in the run-up to the ‘97 election.

For the next ten years the Labour Party’s branding didn’t seem to change much, a tweak here and there, but nothing major. In the 2005 campaign we had the slogan Britain forward not back, which like the previous slogan was in a red square.
2007
When Gordon became leader the party got a new look logo and font. The rose had its stem and leaves chopped off and it now sat in a rounded cornered square which now sat left of the text, and the font became very modern.
Have a look at the difference between these two lapel stickers. One from 2001 and the other from 2008.

I can’t help feeling that the new lapel stickers say Vote Labour Labour!
I really love this stuff, so if anyone has any duplicates of Labour Party campaign materials, stickers, posters, pens, leaflets etc – I’d really love them. I’d pay for postage, packing, and make a donation to you and/or the party too!
